William Schwalm
William Ralph Schwalm, 76, of Butler, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.
Born Nov. 13, 1948, to Alice (McKinnis) and Ralph A. Schwalm of Butler, Bill was a proud graduate of Butler High School. Shortly after, he served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany — an experience that deepened his discipline.
A man of deep and steady faith, Bill was a lifelong member of Community Alliance Church of Butler and served as a trustee. Bill worked for Armco for 31 years and for three years at — in Bill’s infamous words — “AK Prison.” In retirement, he enjoyed his hobbies, especially visiting the guys at Hovis with his dog.
In 1971, Bill married the love of his life, Shelly (Walker), and together they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. They raised two sons, Erik (Jennifer) and Travis (Julia), of Butler. Bill was the proud grandfather of eight, Walker, Taylor, Maggie, Chet, Will, Whitaker, Henry and Hattie, all of Butler.
Bill is survived by his wife, Shelly; sisters, Judy Ball and Cathie Schwalm of Seattle, Wash.; his sons, Erik and Travis, and daughters-in-law; his eight beloved grandchildren; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dr. Terry Ball of Seattle, Wash.
Bill’s legacy is one of faith, kindness and generosity. His life was proof that you can serve God, serve others and still always have room for dessert.
SCHWALM — A celebration of life for family and friends of William Ralph Schwalm, who died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at his son Erik’s farm.
