Police: Florida man stole truck, crashed in Worth Township

A Florida man is accused of stealing a RAM 1500 pickup truck from a Mercer County business and crashing it in Worth Township, police said.

Christopher Blackshear, 42, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, was charged with felony theft following the Sunday, Aug. 10, crash.

Police said they were dispatched for a single-vehicle crash on I-79 northbound where the truck reportedly got a flat tire then crashed into a barrier. A witness reported the operator was sitting on the guiderail next to the crash.

Police arrived at the scene and found the vehicle without the operator. Police found the vehicle was registered to Enterprise Fleet Management and owned by the Russell Standard Corporation.

Police said they canvased the area and located Blackshear at Loves Truck Stop in Worth Township. Blackshear reportedly told police he did not drive there and was dropped off, but police found the truck key in his pocket.

Police then contacted the company that owned the vehicle and gave its location. Managers at the business confirmed the vehicle was stolen. Police said a further investigation would be conducted to determine if the business was burglarized.

Blackshear is being held in Butler County Prison on a $75,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 27 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
