Short-term detour announced for I-79

Roadwork DME

Interstate 79 southbound in Cranberry Township will have a short-term detour in effect Friday night, Aug. 8, into Saturday afternoon.

PennDOT announced the detour as part of an ongoing concrete repair project. It is set to begin 8 p.m. Friday and to be lifted by 4 p.m. Saturday.

“I-79 southbound traffic to Exits 77 or 78 for PA-228/Cranberry/US-19 will stay in the right travel lane to access the exit ramps. Through traffic should travel in the left lane which will merge back onto I-79 south,” the department’s news release said.

Work on the project will be taking place throughout the rest of August. Lane closures will be in effect on both northbound and southbound lanes between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during weekdays and from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday during the weekends.
