North Washington Rodeo more than just entertainment

Next week, Washington Township will draw hundreds of riders from across the globe for the 65th North Washington Rodeo.

The five- day event, which starts Tuesday, Aug. 12, will draw competitors for a range of rodeo staple events. It’s sure to provide spectators with a great show

Beyond the entertainment value, the event is a major fundraiser for the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department, raising as much as $130,000 each year.

In a time when funding for emergency services is scarce, and organizations — particularly fire departments and EMS agencies — are struggling to recruit, train and equip necessary personnel, that money can be vital lifeline. One that could potentially save the lives of the community in attendance.

We urge the community of not just North Washington, but the surrounding area to show up and show their support for this long-standing, traditional funding source for the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department. It could make all the difference for the both the fire department and the community.

Tickets for the rodeo — which is held rain or shine — are available online at ticketsauce.com, and can be purchased there until midnight Sunday, Aug. 10. Admission is $15 for adults and $9 for children ages 4 to 12, with fees not included. Younger children are admitted free. For those purchasing tickets at the door, tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children.

Gates open at 6 p.m. The rodeo starts at 8 p.m.
