Woman sustains multiple fractures in head-on crash in Oakland Township, man charged with DUI

A woman sustained fractures to her spine, femur, ribs and foot in a head-on crash along Chicora Road in Oakland Township, where another driver was driving under the influence, according to police.

Justin Robert Ross, 36, of Chicora, was charged on Friday, Aug. 1, with felony aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence following the June 20 crash.

Saxonburg police said they were dispatched for a two-vehicle crash with three patients and at least one entrapment and arrived to find two women in a Chevrolet HHR. The driver was in distress and unable to exit the vehicle, according to police.

When fire crews arrived with additional extrication tools, police turned their attention to the other vehicle, a Nissan Rogue. Its driver was identified as Ross, who showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking alcohol but refused a blood draw, according to police.

Ross’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 5 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
