Police: Slippery Rock man crashes into Old Stone House fence following chase
A Slippery Rock man crashed into a fence at the Old Stone House while being chased by police in Brady Township, police said.
Russell Lewis Barkey IV, 21, was charged with felony fleeing or eluding and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence following the alleged Aug. 2 incident.
Police said they witnessed Barkey driving a white Ford Fusion make a wide turn and drift into the opposite lane, almost striking an embankment, on Centreville Pike. Police then attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued speeding toward Route 8, according to the affidavit.
Police said as the vehicle approached Route 8, Barkey left the right side of the road, spun through a grassy area, drifted across Route 8 and went through a fence on the historic Old Stone House property before turning back onto Route 8 and traveling north.
Barkey’s vehicle came to a stop when he struck a small embankment and road sign then attempted to go over another embankment on Duffy Road, police said.
According to police, Barkey showed signs of impairment once he exited the vehicle. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 13 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
