Gladys Kredel
Gladys Ann Kredel, formerly of Butler, died Friday, July 25, 2025, in Scott Depot, W.Va., at her daughter’s home.
She was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Pittsburgh, to Erik and Gladys Lawson. She was the youngest of four children and was doted on by her parents and siblings. She spent her summers in Ocean City, N.J., in the family beach house her father built.
She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1956 and attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. She was a cheerleader and member of Tri Delta sorority.
The following summer she met an aspiring dental student, Bill Kredel, on the Pitt campus and she was smitten. She stayed in Pittsburgh and worked as a Realtor in the family business, Lawson Realty, and obtained her MRS degree by marrying Bill on June 16, 1962.
After a few years and moves, they settled in Butler with two young daughters, Cari and Susie, and another daughter, Lynn, came a few years later. Gladys raised her girls by filling them with love, kindness, empathy and smarts. And as adults they grew into mini-mes of her — fast talking, chatty women who never met a stranger.
In Butler, Gladys developed lifelong friends. She was an avid golfer, who hit a hole-in-one at Krendale Golf Course, a fierce bridge player in her Woodbury Estates card club and her Monroe Hotel group, and a loyal friend to the gals on Haven Hill Drive. She enjoyed walking her dogs, bowling, coffee club, Bible study and happy hour.
In her later years, she and Bill lived on Daniel Island in Charleston, S.C., near their youngest daughter, Lynn. After Bill passed, she later moved to Toledo, Ohio, to be near her oldest daughter, Cari. And last year, she moved in with her middle daughter, Susie, in Scott Depot, W.Va., who took wonderful care of her in their home. She passed into heaven on July 25, 2025.
Gladys was a caregiver to her mother, who lived to age 97, and then cared for her husband till his death. She did so with a smile and kind heart, despite long days and difficult moments. She was always thinking of others’ needs before her own.
Her legacy of love, kindness, caregiving, and selfless way lives on in her family of three daughters, Cari (Doug) Ratzenberger, Susie (Tim) Daly and Lynn (Radwan) Hallaba; 14 grandchildren, Lindsey (Zachary) Brewington, Austin (Kassidy) Stevens, Lauren Stevens, Emily (Arron) Diedrich, Bill Daly, Anne (John) Hunnicutt, Megan (Will) Ray, Ryan Daly, Mike (Jersey) Daly, Matthew Daly, Makeen Hallaba, Kinsey Hallaba, Jenna Hallaba and Kaden Hallaba; and six great-grandchildren, Greyson, Molly, Brice, Harper, Marshall and Mia, plus three more on the way.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Erik Lawson; her husband, Dr. William Kredel, DDS; her sister, Renie Butler; her brothers, Erik Lawson Jr. and John Bond; and a grandchild, Molly Daly; and a myriad of family dogs, Charlie, Abby, Maggie, Daisy and Gigi.
Gladys was entombed on July 29, 2025, at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum in Butler. Services were private.
