Paint with a firefighter at artistic event
Firefighters will paint alongside young artists on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at a painting session at Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics that aims to connect children with the people who may come to their rescue in an emergency.
Christine Steele, of Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics, said she organized Paint with a Firefighter as a way to introduce children to firefighters of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company. Children who attend the painting session will use a small fire truck as a canvas, and will speak with firefighters as they color the mini-vehicle with paint.
“I was talking to the chief, and said we were trying to reach different community departments,” Steele said. “It's a chance for (children) to see a firefighter in a safe environment, so when they are in a crisis they will see them as a friend.”
The session begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the cost to attend is $12, which also covers the cost of paint and the small fire truck.
