Cranberry Township based MSA Safety has bought the office building property next to its Cranberry Woods campus at 400 Bertha Lamme Drive for $20 million.

The building is approximately 118,000-square-feet with three floors on 25 acres and was originally built 15 years ago for Westinghouse Electric Co.

According to Mark Deasy, director of public relations and corporate communications, the purchase is a “strategic investment” in MSA’s future.

“This isn’t something that we had an urgent need to do right now,” Deasy said. “It’s about giving us the flexibility to meet longer term growth and expansion needs. What accelerated the decision to make this investment was the fact that a building directly across the street from our headquarters and our John Ryan R&D Lab became available.”

Deasy also said having the building so close to where 1,000 MSA associates currently work gives the company the flexibility to address future space constraints at both buildings, while still giving their teams the ability to collaborate in person.

“One other point to note is that our Cranberry Woods site is not just our headquarters,” Deasy said. “It’s also a global center of manufacturing excellence for detection technology. So, this investment also positions the company to make further investments in our Cranberry manufacturing footprint and engineering facilities as well.”
