Drag racing to debut at farm show on Aug. 4
The Randy L. Kummer Arena at the Butler Farm Show grounds has hosted its fair share of races for spectators over the years. But for the first time, a dirt drag racing event will come to the grandstand arena in form of KOI Drag Racing at 7 p.m. Monday.
Terry Kramer, a farm show board of directors member, said anyone who brings their own vehicle can participate in the drag race.
“Whatever you bring, that’s what you race with,” Kramer said.
Interested racers can bring all-terrain or side-by-side vehicles, pickup trucks and dirt bikes, or even daily-use automobiles, golf carts and diesel trucks, according to Lewis Cleaver, owner of KOI Drag Racing.
KOI — which stands for Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana — has been holding drag racing classes and events since 2012 and is helping bring this event to the farm show.
“We like to say if it has a motor and wheels, we have a class for it,” KOI’s website says.
Kramer said while this three-hour show aims to draw younger people, the entertainment value is not only for youth.
“Everybody can get enjoyment out of something like this,” he said.
The entry fee is $10 per vehicle and $20 for diesel trucks.
“All the money (participants) pay in goes back as prize money,” Cleaver said.
