Work to begin imminently on Harrisville sinkholes

Less than a week after Harrisville Mayor Dan Anschutz declared a state of emergency regarding two sinkholes in the borough, work is expected to begin to address the issue.

Anschutz shared an update on Facebook that work on the West Mercer Street sinkholes is expected to begin Wednesday, July 30. According to the update, the repairs are expected to take around two weeks.

“Thank you for your patience while this important work is completed,” the update said.

Anschutz declared a state of emergency on Thursday, July 24, after the collapse of a section of the stormwater system created two sinkholes near the parking lot of local restaurant Soup is Good.

“Please continue to support the businesses impacted by the work: Soup is Good, Henry’s Meat Market and Hovis Plumbing. There should be access at the back of the businesses from Henry Street,” the update said.

The state of emergency will end on Thursday, July 31, unless extended by borough council.
