Seven Fields Council OKs traffic signal maintenance, new HVAC system

SEVEN FIELDS — Borough council made a number of procedural moves during a monthly meeting on Monday, July 28.

At the borough building, the HVAC systems on the second floor stopped working after a decade of use. To rectify that, the borough received three quotes for replacements, with the highest one coming in at $38,798.

Ultimately, council approved the lowest responsible bid, which came from Pioneer Services and Supply for $19,370.

Council approved a traffic signal maintenance agreement with Cranberry Township at a cost of $9,000.

That agreement dates back nearly a decade and covers the three signals that connect the borough to Cranberry Township, according to borough manager Tom Smith.

Council members also took one of the final steps to finalize a long-standing dispute between the borough and Evans City over the dissolution of the Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department.

The two boroughs agreed to split the arbitration expenses evenly, with each paying $3,570 for the mediation that took place in late April.

“We believe that there’s just one final item for the dissolution itself and that will be a police commission meeting, kind of wrapping everything up and finalizing all the actions taken,” borough solicitor Megan Turnbull told council. “So I think this is a near final step.”

Council members also approved a change in the borough’s pool policy after dealing with some safety issues earlier this year. Beginning at the onset of the 2026 season, anyone under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. The previous policy allowed for children ages 10 and older to swim without an adult or legal guardian present.

In a personnel move, Brandon Keenan was appointed to the Seven Fields Planning Commission to fill a recent vacancy.

The borough announced it brought in $11,892 in funding from the Act 13 Marcellus Shale Funding from the previous year.
