Road work begins on Karns Crossing Bridge project

Traffic is now restricted to one lane on Route 68/East Jefferson Street for the Karns Crossing Bridge project in Summit and Butler townships, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

PennDOT said the restriction will begin on Eau Clair St. and extend to Route 38/Oneida Valley Road. The lane closures began Monday, July 28, and will be in effect on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Restrictions are expected to last until Aug. 15.

PennDOT warned motorists to expect delays and use caution.

The $64.8 million bridge replacement project, estimated to be finished in spring 2028, will be completed by Swank Construction Company of New Kensington.

The project will replace two structures, the bridge itself and the adjacent arch culvert. The project also includes improvements to traffic safety and capacity at the Route 68/Delwood Road intersection and the Route 68/Route 422 eastbound on-ramp intersection.
