Hilliards woman charged after altercation leads to concussion
A Hilliards woman is accused of giving a woman a concussion Friday, July 25, in Venango Township, according to police.
Velma Ellen Ja Weckerly, 50, was charged Monday with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor simple assault following the alleged incident.
Police said they were dispatched to the area of Hughes Road in Hilliards for reports of a woman lying on the road with a suspected head injury.
The woman’s boyfriend told police Weckerly drove past the two in a Chevrolet Uplander and yelled at them.
Police said the boyfriend then reported Weckerly drove by a second time, exited the vehicle, continued yelling and pushed the woman with both hands. The push caused the woman to fall backward and hit the back of her head on the ground.
Police said the woman suffered a suspected concussion and a laceration in the back of her head. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Weckerly’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 5 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
