Scrubgrass Township shooter identified
The man who shot his neighbor and then himself on Thursday, July 24, in Scrubgrass Township has been identified by the Venango County coroner.
Christina Rugh, Venango County coroner, identified the man Saturday as James Goehring, 52, of Scrubgrass Township.
State police said they found Jamie Nevel dead with multiple gunshot wounds when they responded around 2:25 p.m. Thursday, July 24, to a residence on Emlenton Clintonville Road in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, located just north of Butler County in the area of Emlenton.
The man was later found dead in the living room of his residence, located across the road from where Nevel was found, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Police said the man had previous confrontations with the woman and her husband.
Rugh confirmed Nevel as the victim Friday.
After finding Nevel, police established a perimeter around the man’s residence but were unsuccessful coercing the man to come out. Tactical units responded after police obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they found the man dead.
