Name of victim in Venango County murder-suicide released
A 44-year-old woman was murdered by a 52-year-old man before the man died himself of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to state police.
Police said they found Jamie Nevel dead with multiple gunshot wounds when they responded around 2:25 p.m. Thursday, July 24, to a residence on Emlenton Clintonville Road in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, located just north of Butler County in the area of Emlenton.
The man was later found dead in the living room of his residence, located across the road from where Nevel was found, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Police did not immediately identify either person, but said the man had previous confrontations with the woman and her husband.
Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh confirmed Nevel as the victim, but declined to release the name of the man until his next of kin is notified.
After finding Nevel, police established a perimeter around the man’s residence but were unsuccessful coercing the man to come out. Tactical units responded after police obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Tactical units found the man dead in the residence.
The investigation is ongoing.
