Get involved to help shape traffic safety plan

In the Wednesday, July 23, edition of the Butler Eagle, we learned about the latest developments in an effort by four Butler County municipalities to improve the safety of their roads.

Cranberry and Jackson townships, and Zelienople and Harmony boroughs have joined together to create the Southwest Butler County Multi-Municipal Safety Action Plan, which has the goal of reducing crashes on the road.

That’s an important goal, and according to PennDOT statistics, there is work to be done. In 2024, the four municipalities accounted for nearly a fourth of all 1,472 crashes countywide, with 353.

Cranberry Township had the most with 229 crashes, followed by Jackson Township with 89, Zelienople with 32 and Harmony with three.

Those statistics are important, because one part of the plan is to target areas with more crashes to determine what can be done to decrease the number.

In addition to the work being done by the municipalities, there is a chance for the public to get involved.

Now through Aug. 15, residents, commuters and visitors can take a short transportation safety survey online. To take the survey, visit engagekh.mysocialpinpoint.com/SWBCSafetyActionPlan.

Public input will help show the municipalities what concerns are most important to the public, so we encourage people to take part.
