Richard O. Walker, 92, of Butler, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Connoquenessing, to the late Roy and Lucille (Porterfield) Walker.

Richard graduated from Penn Township High School in 1951. He then proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as an aviation machinist mate third class.

After serving in the Navy, Richard earned a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He went on to work for Knoch High School as a teacher, then as a guidance counselor, until retiring in 1986.

Richard was a longtime member of Nixon United Methodist Church, though most recently he had begun attending Glade Run Church. He was also a member of the Lion's Club, as well as the National Rifle Association. Richard enjoyed photography, especially taking pictures of eagles, elk and horse shows. In addition, he also worked as an assistant to a guide in Colorado.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Carol (Hindman) Walker, whom he married Sept. 1, 1951; his two children, Mark (Susan) Walker and Brenda (Bill) Becker; his three half-siblings, Dawn Walker, Bob Walker and Ryan Walker; as well as by his numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard P. Walker; as well as his brother, Rex (Nancy) Walker.

WALKER — A visitation for Richard O. Walker, who died Sunday, July 20, 2025, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the funeral home, with Pastor Andy Smothers, of Glade Run Church, officiating.

A private burial will be held at Brownsdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Rocky Mountain Conservancy, rmconservancy.org.
