Garbage truck catches fire in Mars

A garbage truck was towed away near the intersection of Crowe Avenue and Clark Street in Mars after catching fire on Wednesday, July 23.

A garbage truck caught fire shortly before noon on Wednesday, July 23 in Mars.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Crowe Avenue and Clark Street. Members of the Adams Area Fire District and Callery Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and the fire was out within a few minutes, according to Chief Mark Lint of the Mars Borough Police Department.

Traffic along Crowe Avenue was delayed for about 30 minutes as crews worked to clean transmission fluid off the road.

Lint said no one was injured and the situation was kept under control, but “could have been a lot worse” if it wasn’t for the quick response time from emergency personnel.
