Chicora man charged with vehicle theft
A Chicora man is accused of stealing a car and selling it under false pretenses, according to a criminal complaint.
Jayden M. Myers, 20, was charged Friday, July 18, with a felony theft by deception and misdemeanor theft from a motor vehicle.
The charges follow an alleged incident on Monday, July 7, where an officer was dispatched to the fire hall in Petrolia after a reported theft.
Surveillance footage given to state police showed a 2003 white Chevrolet Blazer being taken from the parking lot on a pickup truck’s trailer.
The video was posted on Facebook, prompting a man to report buying the Blazer for $150 from Myers, who claimed to own it. Myers had also given the buyer the key to another vehicle from the parking lot, according to the complaint.
Myers later confessed on Facebook that he was the man from the video but did not go to the police.
The buyer returned the vehicle to the fire hall parking lot and police identified Myers by his driver’s license, the report said.
He awaits a preliminary hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.
