Thank you for the kind words

Reflecting over past few weeks, on my father, Jack McKain’s, passing, funeral, and the outpouring of love and support, I just wanted to say thank you.

First, thank you to staff and residents of St. John’s in Mars, where dad spent his final years — the staff’s professionalism and kindness was second to none. To the residents who became his friends and coconspirators in raiding the kitchen for root beer, thank you for making his last years full of laughs and stories to be shared.

To the community at large and especially all the crickrats — now 50 to 70 years old — thank you for your kindness and stories. It might be inappropriate to laugh at a funeral, but we were all giggling at the stories you shared, and Dad would’ve wanted it that way.

To the friends, neighbors and old customers: you made growing up a McKain in the 1950s through the 1980s something special, thank you for sharing with us on what was a difficult day.

To the Eagle, thank you for covering Dad with a story none have been able to get through without a tear, it was a beautiful tribute. (“Jack McKain lived a life worth living, emulating,” June 27, Page 2.)

Dad was many things: generous and sharing, humble and caring, funny and friendly. His legacy lives on in the five of us, his grandkids and his great-grandkids. Thank you for all you meant to Dad and for your love and support.

Jeff McKain,

Cincinnati, Ohio
