The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said New Castle Street in Slippery Rock is closed today, Wednesday, July 16, due to an oversize load crash near Mulberry Lane in the borough.

Effective immediately, and for the duration of today, New Castle Street is closed between the intersections of I-79, Centerville Pike/South Main Street/Grove City Road and North Main Street/Mercer Road, a Wednesday morning news release from PennDOT said. Utility crews are resetting a pole and multiple utility lines.

To detour from the north of Slippery Rock, motorists should use North Main Street/Mercer Road north to Route 208. Turn left to travel west to I-79 South interchange. Travel south on I-79 to Exit 105. Motorists to the south of Slippery Rock will reverse the directions and take Exit 113. Message boards are active on I-79 announcing the closure. Detour signs will be posted.
