Children’s bikes recalled due to dangerous lead levels

According to an alert by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the SPPTTY children’s bicycles have been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission because of “lead levels that exceed federal safety standards.”

The bikes are pink with brown seat covers, handlebars, pedals and baskets, and were available for purchase in 14-inch and 18-inch sizes.

About 200 of these bikes, which have “SPPTTY” and “New Sport Bike” printed on the bike frame, were sold exclusively online at Walmart.com.

Parents and guardians of children who used the SPPTTY bicycles are strongly advised to inquire their child’s health care provider about blood testing to check for lead levels.

Additionally, parents can get a full refund for the bike by dismantling it and emailing the photo of the dismantled bike to lishkjie@163.com.

The bicycle parts should not be disposed of along with regular trash.

After submitting proof of destruction, consumers are advised to contact the local hazardous waste collection program.
