If you’re going: Day of events to remember Corey Comperatore

A “Rest in Peace Corey Comperatore” banner stands outside Knox Chapel on July 24, 2024. A day of events is planned to mark the year anniversary of his death at a campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle

The wife and two daughters of Corey Comperatore have a day’s worth of plans for Saturday, July 12, to mark the one-year anniversary of his death.

Comperatore, a Buffalo Township firefighter, was shot and killed on July 13, 2024, at a rally for then-candidate President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show grounds. He died shielding his wife, Helen, and two daughters, Allyson and Kaylee, from gunfire.

Those not attending the parade honoring Corey Comperatore can head to Freeport Area High School at 625 S. Pike Road, Buffalo Township as early as 7 a.m., when registration opens for motorcyclists and passengers of the ride.

The day’s first event, however, takes place in Saxonburg. At 9 a.m., a parade honoring Corey Comperatore will begin at Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church and proceed on West Main Street toward South Butler Community Library.

At the library, the Comperatores will present the donation of a bronze statue of a boy and a girl reading books in Comperatore’s memory. Two guest speakers are planned before the event moves to the high school.

The Comperatores will travel to the high school for a blessing of the bikes at 10:45 a.m. Then, at 11 a.m., the ride will take off toward the No Offseason Sports complex, 904 Little Deer Creek Valley Road, Russellton.
