DUI, citation numbers down July 4 weekend compared to 2024
Twelve people died in vehicle crashes over the Independence Day weekend, the same number as in 2024, according to state police data from a Wednesday, July 9, report.
State police said it investigated 803 crashes over the four-day travel period from July 3 to Sunday. Last year, police investigated 944 crashes over a five-day holiday weekend.
Police recorded 58 crashes related to DUIs, down from 67 in 2024. Police made 458 DUI-related arrests.
There were 156 crashes with recorded injuries compared to 197 in 2024. Roughly 2,300 fewer citations were issued in 2025 for speeding along with about 315 fewer seat belt citations and about 50 fewer citations related to child seating.
The state police numbers do not include incidents investigated by other law enforcement agencies.
