Boil advisory in effect 2 days after Slippery Rock water main break

A water main break on Slippery Rock University’s campus Monday, July 7, has left a lingering boil advisory for nearby residents two days later.

The Slippery Rock Municipal Authority recommends boiling water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking with it, according to its website.

A further notice from Slippery Rock Mayor J.D. Longo recommends using boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation.

Longo said the loss of positive water pressure may signal contaminants have entered the distribution system. The boil advisory primarily affects residents on Kiester Road, Harmony Road, Weathervane Drive, Heron Lane and Vista Drive, Longo said.

He said the Slippery Rock Municipal Authority operations independently from local government.
