Butler woman reportedly spits on guards, throws tray at hospital staff
A Butler woman is accused of spitting on security guards and throwing a metal tray at a nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Margaret Durler, 46, was charged Sunday, June 29, with three felony aggravated assault counts and three misdemeanor simple assault counts following the incident.
Police said they responded to the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room Sunday for reports of a woman assaulting employees. They arrived to find Durler sedated and secured to a bed.
Police spoke with two security guards at the emergency room. Both accused Durler of spitting on their faces. A case manager informed police later that Durler tested positive for hepatitis and was using controlled substances.
A nurse also accused Durler of throwing a metal tray at her, but it did not injure her.
Durler’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. July 17 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell. She’s being held in Butler County Prison on a $75,000 bond.
