2 charged in Pearl Street apartment raid
Two men were charged after the Butler County Drug Task Force raided an East Pearl Street apartment on Wednesday, July 2.
Shawn C. Montgomery, 52, of Butler, was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver controlled substances and criminal conspiracy; and Deontae J. Thompson, 34, of Highland Park, Mich., was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver controlled substances and criminal conspiracy, and misdemeanor controlled substance possession and drug paraphernalia possession following the incident.
Police said they purchased $160 of crack cocaine Wednesday in a controlled buy. Police later reportedly watched Montgomery leave the East Pearl Street apartment to meet a confidential police source and return to the apartment.
Police executed a search warrant on the apartment Wednesday and found Thompson and Montgomery in the apartment with another person. Thompson reportedly had $800 on his person when detained, including $150 police used for the previous purchase.
Police said they found two small digital scales with one coated in white residue, a box of clear plastic sandwich baggies, a box of white latex gloves, two cellphones, a bag with alleged remnants of drug packaging, marijuana in a glass jar and about 19.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine.
Police also found a black plastic box with two magnets built into the bottom attached to the back of the kitchen stove.
Thompson and Montgomery’s preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 14 before District Judge William Fullerton. Thompson is being held in Butler County Prison on a $50,000 bond, and Montgomery on a $25,000 bond.
