Katrina Etzel

Etzel

Katrina Lynne Etzel, 52, of Boyers, formerly of Butler, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, at her home.

Born Aug. 19, 1972, in Butler, she was the daughter of Thomas Spencer and Linda Peth Hopper.

Katrina graduated from Butler Area Senior High School in 1990. She went on to attend Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing, where she began her lifelong career as a registered nurse. Her passion for caregiving was evident in every role she held, but she especially cherished her time as a supportive and compassionate home care nurse.

Throughout her career, she worked at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Concordia Visiting Nurses and Allegheny Health Network Healthcare at Home.

In 2016, Katrina moved to Daytona, Fla., where she lived until 2023. She continued her home care nursing work in Florida while enjoying the warm weather and frequent visits to the beach. She loved so many people she met there, and she also especially liked hosting friends and family from Pennsylvania in her home.

She loved spending time with her granddaughter and working on various projects with her mother and stepmother. Despite any struggles Katrina faced in her life, she never allowed them to dampen her love of having fun, helping people and making friends. She will be remembered for her genuine smile, positive attitude and caring nature.

Katrina is survived by her daughter, Sydney Ow, and her husband, Joseph, of Herman; her granddaughter, Sophie Ow, of Herman; her mother, Linda Hopper, and her partner, Dave, of Boyers; her father, Thomas Spencer, and his wife, Katherine, of Sutton, W.Va.; one brother, Eric Spencer, and his wife, Christine, of Petrolia; one nephew, Reece Spencer, of Petrolia; and her former husband and longtime friend, Chris Etzel, of Herman.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Etzel; and one brother, Matthew Spencer.
