Drinking water warning in effect for East Brady
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is advising East Brady Borough residents to not drink their water as an unknown chemical has been introduced to the water supply.
According a release by the department Friday, June 27, the certified operator for East Brady Borough Water System noticed unusual water samples that led to the discovery that a misidentified chemical was introduced to the system.
The department said the chemical in question, and its effects on the drinking water, is still unknown.
In the meantime, residents are advised to using bottled water or another alternative water source for drinking or cooking until further notice. Boiling, filtering or letting water stand will not reduce levels of the chemical, and may make it more concentrated.
“East Brady Borough Water System is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, its certified operator and the chemical supplier to identify the unknown chemical and determine the appropriate corrective actions to address the situation,” the release read.
