Window messages a sign of community

For the past few years, Linda Gaiser has had a message to send.

Despite describing herself as shy, Gaiser has had quite a bit to say since the COVID-19 pandemic. And she doesn’t even have to say them out loud for them to reach dozens, and possibly hundreds of people.

As we learned in the Monday, June 23, edition of the Butler Eagle, Gaiser has spent the last several years cutting letters out of old file folders, coloring them in, and then using them to create messages of hope and love that she them puts in her home’s front window.

After Mason Martin collapsed during a Karns City football game in September 2023, she put up a sign that said “Mason Strong.”

The sign Gaiser has up now feels particularly apt for the moment.

It says “Love Each Other.”

The reason for the signs is pretty simple: Gaiser hopes they’ll make someone happy.

“Especially being shy, I can still make somebody’s day,” Gaiser said.

In a world that can be too full of anger and cynicism, gestures like the ones Gaiser has made are a breath of fresh air. It’s a reminder that the human connections we make enrich our lives in untold ways.

Whether you pass by Gaiser’s home every day or not, the advice on her window now — to love one another — is worth following.
