Development out of hand in Cranberry

Welcome to “Monroeville North” folks, formerly known as Cranberry Township, where gridlock on Route 19 starts at noon. Apparently our sage township supervisors are conducting an ongoing experiment. Let’s see how many humans we can possibly squeeze into a small, confined area.

Our chief industries here seem to be townhouse construction and traffic light installation. I guess when there are visions of unlimited tax dollars dancing in your head the mantra is keep the building boom alive. After all, we just had to have a state-of-the-art municipal building.

And speaking of disgraces, I think the Meeder Farms development is an eyesore that grows every day. They took the last open ground in the center of Cranberry and allowed Soviet-style block housing to sprout up uncontrollably.

Did it ever occur to our leaders that a beautiful green space for all residents to enjoy would have improved the quality of life here? But why should our quality of life matter when there’s tax dollars to be had?

Go to Graham Park they’ll say. But Graham Park isn’t a park, it’s a “sportsplex,” with an impressive number of fields, all of which are off limits to taxpayers. The signs warn us, don’t dare step onto those fields and don’t even think of using the pickleball courts.

So, enjoy your stay here at Monroeville North. And if you need more fun things to do there’s always our state-of-the-art municipal building to see.
