Timothy Sims

Timothy William Sims, 75, of Butler, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 27, 1949, in Butler, he was a son of the late Mark G. Sims and Mary Sasse Sims.

Tim was a 1967 graduate of West Franklin High School.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. A proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 2nd Platoon.

He was employed in the cement industry for more than 40 years, including Armstrong Cement and other cement plants in the area. He later worked at Indspec, and retired in 2013.

Tim was a man of faith with a strong commitment to his church. He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, and the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary.

He belonged to American Legion Post 828 in Worthington, and Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited, which is an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving wildlife habitat.

An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved the time spent in the mountains at camp. Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly-tying and gardening. He was a member of various hunting and fishing clubs. As a hunter, he achieved the Pennsylvania Grand Slam.

His volunteer activities included serving as a mentor to youth and assisting patients at Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Tim loved his family and friends, and cherished the time he shared with them. He is survived by his loving wife, Lori Smith Sims, whom he married Feb. 12. 1999; two sons, Timothy Sims Jr. and his wife, Kacey, of Worthington, and John Sims and his wife, Kaylene, of Oregon; one daughter, Toni Depp and her husband, Mark, of West Virginia; one brother, Jeff Sims and his wife, Debbie, of Sarver; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Sims, and Mark’s wife, Sandy Sims.

Tim’s family extends their sincere thanks to all of his medical providers: Butler Health System, especially Melissa M. Cyr, D.O. and staff, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and VA Butler Healthcare System.

SIMS — Friends of Timothy William Sims, who died Sunday, June 22, 2025, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTON, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St., Butler, with the Rev. Nicholas J. Argentieri officiating. Everyone is to please meet at the church.

The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery, Coylesville.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Armstrong Honor Guard.
