Philadelphia woman charged in Adams Township with identity theft

A Philadelphia woman is accused of stealing a man’s identity and $45,000, according to Adams Township police.

Ashley Wilkerson, 26, was charged with one felony count each of identity theft, access device fraud and theft following the alleged Dec. 2 incident.

Police said a man reported April 25 someone had accessed his three Citizens Bank accounts, removed $45,000 in December and created an additional bank account. The money was then withdrawn from four separate Citizens Bank locations in Philadelphia, police said.

The bank’s investigator deduced Wilkerson’s identity after viewing security cameras at the bank locations and gave a report to police.

Police said an unknown man also participated in the alleged crime by calling the bank posing as the man who lost the $45,000 and requesting transfers of various amounts to the bank account Wilkerson reportedly created.

The man was reimbursed his $45,000, police said.
