Woman uses window display to ‘Make someone’s day’
CHICORA — Linda Gaiser considers herself the shy type, but she is still able to say kind words to hundreds of people a day.
Gaiser has lived in a house on Chicora Road since the 1980s, and for the past several years, she has put words of encouragement onto her window, which passersby can see if they are traveling west out of Chicora. She used to just decorate for holidays like Christmas, Mother’s Day and the Fourth of July, but the COVID-19 pandemic prompted her to begin sharing messages of good will.
She keeps making new letters to put on the window, using it as her own personal billboard to communicate with people in the community.
“Especially being shy, I can still make somebody’s day,” Gaiser said.
As of Friday, June 13, Gaiser’s window has “Love each other” posted for those passing by, but she said she was getting ready to replace it with a Father’s Day message. She said she had “Mason Strong” on the window for a long time, following the injury of Karns City Area Jr./Sr. High School football player Mason Martin in September 2023.
Gaiser keeps all her old words, which she makes by cutting and coloring file folders and stringing them on fishing line, in a box in her living room, in case she wants to break any of them out for another go around.
“It’s so I’m ready for any situation,” Gaiser said, of keeping her old displays.
Linda Gaiser’s husband, Gary Gaiser, said he is happy to watch her art projects in action.
“I enjoy watching her cut those out,” he said. “She does it freehand, she doesn’t even draw them.”
