Raymond ‘Red’ Ryder

Raymond W. “Red” Ryder, 91, of Slippery Rock, passed peacefully at home on Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2025.

Red was born in the village of London, Springfield Township, Mercer County, on Dec. 18, 1933, to James Albert and Christina Anola (Mathieson) Ryder.

He married Nancy M. McKnight on Sept. 19, 1958.

Red was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957, including during the Korean War.

He was a member of Slippery Rock Methodist Church, William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM, Butler, and the American Legion Post 393, Slippery Rock.

Red retired in 1994 as a purchasing agent from American Glass Research (AGR) following 38 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, at home; a daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Moses; and two granddaughters, Molly and Maggie Moses, all of Butler; a brother-in-law, Gary (Sandra) McKnight of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; a sister, Grace McNees; and three brothers, Kenneth, James and John “Jack” Ryder.

RYDER — A private family funeral service for Raymond W. “Red” Ryder, who died Thursday, June 19, 2025, will be held on Monday, June 23, at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, with the Rev. Willard Morse officiating. Military honors will follow.

Burial will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
