Tour unique gardens in Cranberry Township
The Southern Butler Garden Club has a new slew of gardens to show off in its June 28 garden tour, but its members don’t want to reveal too much about them, or their locations ahead of time.
Karen Faust, past president of the Southern Butler Garden Club, said the event is an annual showcase of interesting and well-maintained gardens throughout the Cranberry Township area, and the club recruits people every year to host stops on the tour.
This year is the 17th annual Southern Butler County Garden Tour, and it takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at homes throughout the area. People will start their journeys at the Cranberry Township Municipal Building, and will follow a map to several gardens for a trip Faust called a “love affair with nature.”
“We make sure we get pristine gardens,” Faust said. “We have a variety of gardens, a pretty precise area that give you an idea of what homeowners have done with their properties that aren't maintained by pros.”
According to Faust, the garden club tries to get different gardens every year, although there are some that have been featured on the tour before, just not within the past few years.
The garden stops, themselves, will not just be viewing experiences — Faust said the homeowners are on-site during the tour to speak to guests and answer questions they have about how they maintain their plants.
Faust said the tour is unique every year because even gardeners who have had featured stops may change up the look of their beds from year to year.
“Each one is different. Gardeners love different,” Faust said. “That’s why they’re all packed on the tour.”
Tickets for the Southern Butler County Garden Club tour cost $20 presale, and $25 the day of the event, but only from 9 to 10 a.m. To buy tickets ahead of time, visit www.southernbutlercountygardenclub.org.
People will begin their self-guided tours at 9 a.m. from the Cranberry Township Municipal Building, 2525 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.
