History Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, by Experience Butler County, giving a chance for residents to celebrate the history and heritage of Butler County towns and neighborhoods.

For the celebration, visitors will have free admission to 11 museums and historical sites.

“Celebrating Butler County history gives residents the chance to learn about what brought their families to our county,” Rita Reifenstein, secretary on the Evans City Historical Society board of directors, said in a news release. “It allows visitors to see why we are so proud.”

According to Experience Butler County, noteworthy special activities during the day include: a “Night of the Living Dead”-themed zombie meet-and-greet at Evans City Historical Society; tasty treats from a stone-bake oven at Harmony Museum; a tour of Butler County Historical Society’s newly renovated Little Red Schoolhouse; historical re-enactors in Roebling Park; and activities for children in the Passavant House Garden.

This is the event’s fourth year.

“The history of our county and its small towns makes the foundation for our identity as a tourist destination,” Amy Pack, president of Experience Butler County, said in the news release. “Automotive, educational, architectural and cinematic history are all featured in our event.”
