Police: Man left lying in North McKean Street after assault

A man was reportedly left lying on the ground on North McKean Street after a disk in his spinal cord was pinched during an assault, Butler City police said.

Mitchel Scott Dongilli, 43, of Butler, was charged Monday, June 16, following the alleged May 27 assault against the man. Dongilli is facing charges of felony aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count each of reckless endangerment and simple assault.

The man found lying in the street was flown to Allegheny General Hospital and required surgery to relieve the pinched disk, police said. The man stayed in the hospital for at least a week, the criminal complaint said.

Police said they were dispatched to the 100 block of North McKean Street for reports of a man lying on the ground. Police said the man reported being unable to feel anything below his neck and was flown to the hospital.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and saw Dongilli strike the man in the face with his elbow.

His preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton is yet to be scheduled.
