Protecting the environment should be a top priority

From the website of the Environmental Protection Agency, I find that the “mission of EPA is to protect human health and the environment.” Yet, in a recent article (“Trump EPA rollbacks would weaken rules projected to save billions of dollars and thousands of lives,” Associated Press, June 5), stopping the proposed removal of current EPA regulations “ … could prevent an estimated 30,000 deaths and save $275 billion each year they are in effect.”

The current federal administration is using both a sledgehammer and microscope to snuff out every action that would move the United States closer to a green energy economy. Instead of leading the world to that economy, which is inevitable if the planet is to remain viable for human life, we will now be a drag on that shift. Other countries, especially China, will take the lead and capture the wealth of moving toward renewable energy such as solar, wind, tidal, geothermal and nuclear. If we allow the EPA and other federal agencies to undo all the U.S. has done “to protect human health and the environment,” the green energy train will have left the station without us being on board.

If you don’t want to miss that train, please contact Rep. Mike Kelly and Sens. John Fetterman and Dave McCormick and urge them to keep the green energy tax credits that were created with the Inflation Reduction Act in place. Help the United States to lead the planet to a green and healthy environment.
