CRANBERRY TWP — More than 500 people had gathered at a township intersection on Saturday afternoon, June 14, roughly a half hour into a planned protest against President Donald Trump.

The group convened with signs and flags of all sorts around the intersection of Freedom Road and Route 19 as part of the “No Kings” protests — a movement that criticizes the actions of the Trump administration — happening Saturday around the nation.

The Cranberry Township protest is expected to run from noon to 2 p.m. Catherine Lalonde, chairwoman of the Butler County Democratic Committee, said it was designed to be peaceful.

“We want it to be peaceful,” she said. “We think there will be some people counterprotesting, but all we want to do is speak our minds.”

At 11:30 a.m., more than 50 people had already lined up on Route 19 for the protest. Twenty minutes into the event, there were at least 400 people in attendance.

Later, upward of 600 people could be seen lined along the roads.

The Cranberry Township Police Department said the department had been notified that the protest would take place midday at the intersection.

“Local and state law enforcement agencies will be present to ensure the event remains peaceful and safe for everyone, including the motoring public,” said a Facebook post signed by Kevin Meyer, chief of Cranberry Township police. “While we recognize that people may hold differing views, we ask all residents to stay nonconfrontational and allow the group to exercise their right to a peaceful demonstration.”

Another “No Kings” protest is under way in Grove City.
