Like most of the golfers tested during the U.S. Open the last two days, Matt Vogt spent back-to-back frustrating rounds at Oakmont Country Club.

After the Seneca Valley graduate shot a 12-over 82 Thursday, his second round 81 included a birdie, 10 bogeys and a double-bogey. Vogt finished at plus-23 and was one of 89 golfers who missed the cut, which appeared to settle at plus-7.

Vogt’s day began by teeing off on No. 10 at 12:30 p.m. His birdie came on No. 14, a 379-yard par-4. Now living near Indianapolis, he was one of 15 amateurs to qualify for the event, which he did by golfing consecutive rounds of 68 to win the qualifier at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.

He’d won medals at the WPIAL and PIAA golf championships as a senior in high school before golfing at Butler University (Ind.).
