Eleanor “Ellie” Clouse

Clouse

It is with great sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, “pappy’s grandma” and friend, Eleanor “Ellie” Clouse, of Butler, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born March 18, 1929, in Butler, Ellie was a daughter of the late William and Marcella Stein Young.

She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church.

Ellie was a woman of great faith and deep love for her family. She instilled in all of us the importance of family and belief in something greater. Every night, she could be found talking to God in her prayers, expressing her gratitude and asking for His guidance. Her faith was unwavering and she lovingly passed that same devotion to her children and grandchildren, ensuring the love of God would continue to flow through generations to come.

Her family was everything to her and there was no one who loved bringing everyone together more than she did with her love for cooking on holidays and Sunday dinners. She found joy in gathering her loved ones — especially during the holidays. Christmas Eve, in particular, was made magical by her tradition of hosting and playing scat with the family, a game that her grandkids eagerly awaited the moment they were old enough to join in. It was in those moments, surrounded by laughter and love, that the true spirit of family shone brightest.

In her many roles as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ellie never missed a chance to make memories. Whether it was teaching her grandkids new card games, enjoying puzzles and board games, watching golf or spending time with her beloved bird, BJ III, she made sure that each day was filled with joy.

Her best friend and soulmate, John Clouse, was the love of her life and together they shared countless adventures, especially their love for traveling. After John’s passing, Ellie found herself trying to fill the void, using anything she could to make her house feel full again, and although the loss was great, she continued to carry on her life with remarkable strength, making the best of every day.

She also found solace in the game of golf. She loved playing with her family and friends. When she struggled to play she watched it on TV religiously. Just two months ago, she proved that her spirit never wavered when she picked up a golf club and hit a couple of balls with her great-grandson. We can’t help but imagine her in heaven now, wondering where the heck her golf clubs are!

Though she will be deeply missed, Ellie's legacy will live on in her family, who will continue to honor her memory, her kindness, her warmth, her faith and her boundless love that she so generously shared. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will remain with us always.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Beall and husband, John, of Butler; her son, John “JC” Clouse and his wife, Gretchen, of Chicora; five siblings, Regis Young and his wife, Alice, of Butler, Jane Beltrami of Butler, John Young and his wife, Rita, of Butler, Norman Young and his wife, Madge, of West Sunbury, and Cleo Tritch, of Butler.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, George F. Aubrey III, Tanya Galofaro, Christal Milanovich, Allison Holt and Colby Clouse; nine great-grandchildren. Eva, Bryson, Dexter, Maya, Connor, Sophia, Luna, Lukis and Zoe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate, John Clouse, who passed away Nov. 19, 2020; and 10 siblings, Chuck, Paul, Bill, Betty, Dick, Eileen, Pauline, Mary, Bob and Virginia.
