Zelienople completes renovation project for community amphitheater

ZELIENOPLE — Members of borough council approved a construction contract for community amphitheater renovations during a meeting on Monday, June 9.

The $88,823 contract that went to ATX Excavating improved ADA accessibility and made several significant stormwater improvements, according to borough manager Andrew Spencer.

While the Zelienople Community Park has been around for decades, the borough received $100,000 from the Ayers Foundation in 2011 to design and build the amphitheater.

More than 15 years later, the James A. Ayers Sr. Amphitheater required updates, prompting council members to act on a renovation project that began in the spring of this year.

The project, which only took a couple of months to complete, was done just in time for the borough’s free Concert in the Park series that begins at 7 p.m. on June 17. This-That & The Other Thing! is slated to perform and local restaurants ShuBrew and Aviva Brick Oven will offer food and drinks for community members.

In other business, members approved the hiring of a full-time police officer to bring their force back to full strength following a recent retirement. They also authorized the hiring of a part-time laborer.

Additionally, several volunteers received permission to plant around 3,000 American flags at Four Corners Park in anticipation of the Fourth of July holiday.

A special event application for the Division Street Block Party was also approved. That event will take place on July 26 from 2 p.m. until dusk.
