BASD approves 2025-26 budget, holds line on taxes

BUTLER TWP — Taxes for residents of Butler Area School District will officially remain at 109.64 mills through the next school year after the board voted to approve a final, tax increase-free budget on Monday, June 9.

Avoiding a tax increase was one of three goals mentioned by superintendent Brian White, alongside addressing student needs and avoiding staff furloughs, while designing the budget.

The budget will see about a 2.5% increase, from just under $115 million in revenues and expenditures to nearly $118 million.

“There was a lot of team effort to get the budget to where we have it at right now,” White said at the meeting. “So, thank you to everyone for your work and help on that.”

To avoid any miscalculations from the proposed state budget, White said at a May meeting that the district’s budget was designed under the assumption that the state’s budget would not pass in its current state, instead predicting a smaller increase.

“The state does not have a budget, and there’s no real sign of that happening,” White said. “The federal government has no sign of a budget resolution either.”

The next regular school board meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 16.
