Cathy Dixon
Cathy S. Dixon, 76, of Seneca, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 3, 2025, following a battle with cancer.
She was born in Tarentum, Allegheny County, on Nov. 28, 1948, an adopted daughter of the late Melvin and Marjorie (Covert) Sproat.
She was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning the equivalent to a master’s degree in music education.
Cathy grew up in the Plains Presbyterian Church, near Evans City, and was most recently a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Oil City, where she served as their pianist and organist.
Cathy enjoyed making holiday cards, antiquing, early American items, and the companionship of her two cats, Marigold and Sparkles. She loved dachshunds, especially her miniature long-haired dog, Barney. She also enjoyed visiting the Buchanan’s of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Dixon was employed for many years at Cranberry Area School District as a vocal music teacher and always looked forward to her spring choral concerts.
She was married in Plains Presbyterian Church on July 21, 1978, to Jack R. Dixon Jr., and he survives. She and Jack lived in Kennerdell, later moving to Seneca.
Also surviving are her cousins, Joyce Buchanan, Joe Anthony, Tom Anthony and Linda Anthony; a niece, Christin Sproat; her nephews, Marc, Micah and Jonah Sproat; a sister-in-law, Rhonda Sproat; and very good friends, Debbie Balcita, Jim Cangemi, a fellow teacher who served as best man in their wedding, Mike and Kim Schubert, Bob and Marilyn Betzold, Dave and Zoe Sheatz, and Dot Wilson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Craig Sproat; a cousin, Ellyn Anthony; several aunts and uncles, including a special aunt, Pearl; and her friend, Winnie.
DIXON — Visitation for Cathy S. Dixon, who died Tuesday, June 3, 2025, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at HILE-BEST FUNERAL HOME, 2781 Route 257, Seneca.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Second Presbyterian Church, 111 Reed St., Oil City, with the Rev. Tim Harmon, church pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Plains Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cranberry Township, Butler County.
