A Taco Bell manager is accused of stealing $1,500 from the store’s safe, Butler Township police said.

James E. Payno, 38, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor theft following the alleged May 23 incident.

Police said they spoke with a Taco Bell area coach at the scene who said store manager Payno emptied the safe after the two took inventory of the safe the day before.

Payno was seen on security cameras leaving the store with the money and accessing the safe on the access log, police said.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Aug. 7 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
