Time capsule: Joyce Myers retires from Veterans Services after 37 years
Joyce Myers worked for Butler County Veterans Services for 37 years before retiring in 2009. Staff of the office, as well as veterans she helped, sang Myers’ praises as she prepared to exit the office for the last time.
Myers, who was living in Winfield Township at the time of her retirement, started out working as a stenographer with the county. She also would work at the county’s adult probation office before joining veterans services.
“We would work one day for one department and the next day for another,” Myers said.
John Cyprian, who headed the veterans services department at the time, praised Myers and her work with grieving widows.
“She’s cried with them. She’s laughed with them,” Cyprian said. “The entire veterans community is going to miss her.”
