Esther Robertson

Esther R. Robertson, 95, of Zelienople, passed away in her sleep Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Born Feb. 7, 1930, she grew up in Zelienople, and was the daughter of the late Loyal Henshaw and Ruth (Dambach) Henshaw.

She went to grade school in Harmony and high school in Zelienople, graduating in 1948. On Jan. 22, 1949, she married Russell Robertson of Pittsburgh, and moved to Uniontown, Ohio. In 1963, they moved to the Washington, D.C., area. Upon retirement in 1994, Russell and Esther returned to Zelienople.

Esther had always loved sewing and took a job in the designer fabric department at the renowned G Street Fabrics. Later, she became interested in collecting miniatures and furnishing dollhouses. She recreated in miniature many of the studios and galleries of famous artists. She also carved copies of a historic pocket-size wooden doll called Hitty, and published stories about them in an online journal for 11 years. Her latest artistic endeavor was making miniature-size needlepoint rugs and wall hangings. Her work, while in high demand, was rarely sold and appeared in many magazines. Esther was well thought of in her miniature and Hitty communities.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 76 years, Russell E. Robertson; daughter, Carol Beigel of Greenbelt, Md.; son, David Robertson of Zelienople; and son, William R. Robertson of Kansas City, Mo. She had four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
