Boy, 14, hit by car Friday in Harrisville

A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after being hit by a car Friday, May 30, in Harrisville.

State police in Butler said the crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Route 8 and Sutton Street when the boy failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled onto Route 8 into the vehicle’s path.

He was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jamie L. Caldwell, 45, of Clearfield. The boy was then taken by Superior Ambulance Service to Grove City Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

The crash report calls the boy a non-motorist and indicates he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

“We are deeply saddened to share that a pedestrian accident occurred earlier today on South Main Street in Harrisville borough,” Mayor Daniel Anschutz said in a Friday Facebook post. “At this time, we ask everyone in the community to join us in keeping the victim, the driver and their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

“Moments like this remind us just how fragile life can be — and how important it is to look out for one another.”

He also encouraged caution while driving, biking or walking, especially in areas with high foot traffic.

“Let’s continue working together to make our streets safer for everyone,” he said.

The boy’s condition and identity have not been released and are not immediately known.
